How Do Bacterial Pathogens Affect Toxicology?

Bacterial pathogens are a major concern in toxicology due to their ability to produce exotoxins and endotoxins. Exotoxins are secreted by bacteria and can cause severe damage to the host by disrupting cellular functions. Endotoxins, on the other hand, are components of the bacterial cell wall that are released upon cell death and can trigger strong immune responses, sometimes leading to sepsis. Common examples include Clostridium botulinum, which produces botulinum toxin, and Staphylococcus aureus, known for its enterotoxins.
