Drug interactions are a critical aspect of MAOI toxicity. Concomitant use of MAOIs with other serotonergic drugs can lead to serotonin syndrome, a potentially life-threatening condition characterized by high body temperature, agitation, increased reflexes, tremor, sweating, dilated pupils, and diarrhea. Additionally, combining MAOIs with certain other drugs, such as some over-the-counter cold medications, can precipitate a hypertensive crisis.
