Various medications can influence GERD either positively or negatively. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), certain muscle relaxers, and some antihypertensives can exacerbate GERD by impairing the function of the LES or irritating the esophageal lining. Conversely, proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and H2 receptor blockers are commonly used to reduce stomach acid production and alleviate GERD symptoms.
