PT is measured using a blood sample. The plasma is extracted and mixed with tissue factor to initiate the clotting process. The time it takes for a clot to form is measured in seconds. To standardize results, PT is often reported as an International Normalized Ratio (INR), which allows for comparison across different laboratories.
