What are the Health Concerns Associated with Saccharin?
Concerns about saccharin primarily emerged in the 1970s when studies in laboratory rats suggested a link between saccharin consumption and bladder cancer. As a result, saccharin was listed as a potential carcinogen. However, subsequent research, including epidemiological studies, indicated that these findings were specific to rats and not applicable to humans. In 2000, the U.S. National Toxicology Program removed saccharin from its list of potential carcinogens.
