Dysregulation of the Nrf2 pathway can lead to increased susceptibility to oxidative stress and related diseases. Overactivation of Nrf2 has been linked to certain types of cancer, where cancer cells exploit the antioxidant capabilities of Nrf2 to survive under stressful conditions. Conversely, inadequate Nrf2 activity can result in heightened vulnerability to toxins and increased risk of degenerative diseases, including neurodegenerative diseases and cardiovascular disorders.
