What are the Long-term Effects of Analgesic Abuse?
Chronic misuse of analgesics can lead to several long-term health issues. Regular use of NSAIDs can increase the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding and cardiovascular events. Long-term acetaminophen abuse may result in chronic liver damage. Chronic opioid use can lead to tolerance, physical dependence, addiction, and increased sensitivity to pain, a condition known as opioid-induced hyperalgesia.
