What are the Phases of Metabolism?

Metabolism is generally divided into two phases:
Phase I Metabolism: This phase involves functionalization reactions such as oxidation, reduction, and hydrolysis, primarily catalyzed by enzymes like cytochrome P450. These reactions introduce or expose a functional group on the compound.
Phase II Metabolism: Known as conjugation reactions, this phase involves linking the compound with another substance to increase its solubility. Common conjugation agents include glucuronic acid, sulfate, or glutathione.
