What is the significance of Biological Exposure Indices (BEIs)?

In addition to TLVs, ACGIH has also developed Biological Exposure Indices (BEIs). BEIs serve as guidance for assessing workers' exposure to chemicals by monitoring biological samples such as blood or urine. These indices help in determining whether a worker has been exposed to a hazardous substance and if the exposure is within acceptable limits. BEIs are especially useful for substances that are absorbed through the skin or ingested rather than inhaled.
