What Methods Does the FDA Use for Toxicology Testing?
The FDA uses a variety of methods for toxicology testing, including in vitro (test tube) studies, in vivo (animal) studies, and increasingly, computational toxicology approaches. In vitro methods help identify cellular and molecular mechanisms of toxicity, while in vivo studies provide data on how substances affect whole organisms. Computational models are also employed to predict toxicological outcomes using existing data, which can reduce the need for animal testing.
