Nociceptors are not only involved in pain perception but also play a significant role in the inflammatory response. Upon activation by toxins, nociceptors release neuropeptides such as substance P and CGRP (calcitonin gene-related peptide), which promote vasodilation and attract immune cells to the site of injury.
