SARs function by delivering air through a hose from an uncontaminated source. The air source can be a high-pressure cylinder or a compressor that filters and purifies air from the environment. The air travels through hoses to a facepiece, hood, or helmet worn by the user. This setup creates a positive pressure environment inside the mask, preventing contaminants from entering. SARs are particularly useful in confined spaces or areas where the oxygen levels might be insufficient.
