How do Toxic Substances Cause Pancreatic Necrosis?
Certain chemicals and drugs can directly or indirectly damage pancreatic cells. Ethanol, for instance, is a well-known cause of pancreatic injury. It can lead to the formation of fatty acid ethyl esters, which are toxic to pancreatic cells. Other substances, including certain chemotherapeutic agents, can cause oxidative stress, leading to cell death and necrosis.
