Management of toxicity involves supportive care and, in some cases, specific antidotes. For benzodiazepine overdose, flumazenil can be administered to competitively inhibit the action of the drug at the GABA-A receptor. However, flumazenil use is controversial due to the risk of precipitating seizures, especially in mixed-drug overdoses or in individuals with chronic benzodiazepine use.
