Given the risks of GABAergic drugs, alternatives are often considered, especially for long-term management of anxiety and insomnia. Non-GABAergic anxiolytics such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) are commonly prescribed. These drugs do not carry the same risk of dependence and are preferred for long-term therapy.
