Is There a Therapeutic Potential in Targeting Histone Modifications?
The reversible nature of histone modifications makes them attractive targets for therapeutic intervention. Drugs known as histone deacetylase inhibitors (HDAC inhibitors) have been developed to modify histone acetylation patterns, thereby restoring normal gene expression profiles. These inhibitors are currently being explored in the treatment of various cancers and other diseases where histone modification plays a critical role.
