Autoantibodies are antibodies that mistakenly target and react with a person's own tissues or organs. Normally, the immune system can distinguish between self and non-self, but in certain conditions, this distinction fails, leading to the production of autoantibodies. These are often associated with autoimmune diseases such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and type 1 diabetes.
