What are Bacteriostatic Agents?

Bacteriostatic agents are substances that inhibit the growth and reproduction of bacteria, but do not necessarily kill them. They act by interfering with bacterial processes such as protein synthesis, DNA replication, or other essential cellular mechanisms. This allows the host's immune system to clear the infection more effectively. Unlike bactericidal agents, which kill bacteria, bacteriostatic agents stop their proliferation, thereby controlling the spread of infection.
