In response to concerns about metal ion release, there has been a growing interest in alternative materials for joint replacements. One such alternative is ceramic implants, which offer excellent wear resistance and do not release metal ions. However, they are more brittle than metal implants and may be prone to fracture. Advances in polymer technology have also led to the development of improved polyethylene materials with enhanced wear characteristics.
