What are the Challenges of Vascular Access in Toxicology?
Several challenges can arise when attempting vascular access in toxicology cases:
Poor Venous Access: Patients who are dehydrated, in shock, or have a history of drug abuse may have compromised veins, making access difficult. Time Sensitivity: In acute poisoning cases, time is of the essence. Delays in establishing vascular access can lead to worsening of the patient's condition. Technical Difficulties: Certain methods, such as central venous access, require technical expertise and carry risks such as pneumothorax or infection.
