Love Canal is a neighborhood in Niagara Falls, New York, which became infamous in the late 1970s for its toxic waste contamination. The area was originally intended to be a model planned community, but the project was abandoned, and the site was later used by the Hooker Chemical Company as a chemical waste dump. Over 21,000 tons of toxic industrial waste were buried in this site.
