Naloxone, an opioid antagonist, is commonly used to counteract opioid overdoses. However, its effectiveness against designer opioids is variable, especially with highly potent fentanyl analogs. High or repeated doses of naloxone may be required, and in some cases, additional supportive measures like mechanical ventilation are necessary. Research into more effective treatments is ongoing, as is the development of new antidotes tailored to specific designer opioids.
