While most ladybugs are harmless to humans, some species can secrete toxic or irritating substances. The Harmonia axyridis, commonly known as the Asian lady beetle, is one such species. When threatened, it releases a yellow fluid from its leg joints, a behavior known as reflex bleeding. This fluid contains alkaloids that can be toxic to some animals and may cause allergic reactions in humans.
