Due to its potential health risks, several countries have established regulatory guidelines for PFOA concentrations in drinking water and other environmental media. For instance, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has set a health advisory level for PFOA at 70 parts per trillion (ppt) in drinking water, while the European Union has proposed stricter limits. Ongoing efforts to phase out PFOA production and use, as well as research into safer alternatives, aim to reduce its environmental and health impacts.
