OSHA enforces its standards through workplace inspections and investigations. These can be initiated in response to a complaint, a workplace accident, or as part of a targeted inspection program. OSHA inspectors, also known as compliance safety and health officers, evaluate the workplace for compliance with OSHA standards and can issue citations and fines for violations.
