MDS are clonal disorders stemming from bone marrow stem cells, resulting in dysplasia and ineffective blood cell production. Patients typically present with anemia, thrombocytopenia, or leukopenia. The etiology of MDS can be multifactorial, involving genetic, environmental, and occupational exposures.
