Surfactants, or surface-active agents, are compounds that lower the surface tension between two liquids or between a liquid and a solid. They are commonly used in products such as detergents, emulsifiers, foaming agents, and dispersants. The structure of surfactants typically consists of a hydrophilic (water-attracting) head and a hydrophobic (water-repelling) tail, which allows them to interact with both water and oil-based substances.
