What are the Challenges in Antibody Production for Toxicology?
One of the major challenges in producing antibodies for toxicology is the immunogenicity of small molecules. Many toxins are small and do not naturally elicit a strong immune response. To overcome this, toxicologists use adjuvants or conjugate these small molecules to larger carrier proteins to make them more immunogenic. Another challenge is ensuring the specificity of the antibodies, as cross-reactivity with non-target substances can lead to false positives in assays.
