What are the Risk Factors for C. difficile Infection?
Several factors increase the risk of C. difficile infection (CDI). These include recent use of antibiotics, which can disrupt the normal gut flora, prolonged hospitalization, advanced age, and underlying illnesses. Immunocompromised individuals are also at higher risk. The use of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) has been associated with an increased risk of CDI as well.
