The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has set the permissible exposure limit (PEL) for carbon tetrachloride at 10 parts per million (ppm) as a time-weighted average over an 8-hour workday. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has also established safety guidelines for CCl4 in drinking water to protect public health.
