Symptoms of iron toxicity vary depending on the level and duration of exposure. In acute cases, symptoms often appear within six hours of ingestion and include abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, and hematemesis. As toxicity progresses, it can lead to metabolic acidosis, liver failure, and multi-organ dysfunction. Chronic toxicity symptoms might be more insidious, including fatigue, joint pain, and skin changes. If untreated, severe iron overload can be fatal.
