What Are the Toxicological Concerns of Beta Carotene?
Concerns arise primarily from the use of beta carotene supplements rather than from dietary intake. Studies have shown that high doses of beta carotene could lead to a condition known as carotenodermia, which is characterized by a yellow-orange discoloration of the skin. Although not harmful, it can be cosmetically concerning. In terms of serious health risks, the link between high-dose beta carotene supplements and increased cancer risk in certain populations is a significant toxicological concern.
