The Bhopal disaster, also known as the Bhopal gas tragedy, occurred on the night of December 2-3, 1984, at the Union Carbide India Limited (UCIL) pesticide plant in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India. A highly toxic gas, Methyl Isocyanate (MIC), was released into the atmosphere, affecting hundreds of thousands of people. The incident is considered one of the world's worst industrial disasters.
