ground level ozone (o3)

What is Ground Level Ozone?

Ground level ozone (O3) is a colorless and highly reactive gas. Unlike the ozone layer found high in the atmosphere, which protects life on Earth from the sun’s ultraviolet rays, ground level ozone is an air pollutant with harmful effects on human health and the environment. It forms when pollutants emitted by cars, power plants, industrial boilers, refineries, and other sources chemically react in the presence of sunlight.
