Which Toxins Can Cause or Exacerbate Diabetes Insipidus?
Besides lithium, other toxins and drugs can influence the development or exacerbation of DI. For example, high levels of calcium in the blood (hypercalcemia) and low levels of potassium (hypokalemia) can impair the kidney's ability to concentrate urine, mimicking DI. Additionally, certain antibiotics like demeclocycline and antiviral drugs such as foscarnet can induce nephrogenic DI.
