Are There Any Therapeutic Approaches for Prion Diseases?
Currently, there are no effective treatments for prion diseases, and they are invariably fatal. Research efforts are focused on understanding the mechanisms of prion propagation and developing therapeutic strategies to halt or slow down the disease process. Approaches under investigation include immunotherapy, small molecules that stabilize normal prion proteins, and drugs targeting the aggregation process. Despite these efforts, significant challenges remain in translating these findings into viable treatments.
