While generally safe when used appropriately, lidocaine can cause toxicity if administered in excessive doses or if there is impaired metabolism. Symptoms of lidocaine toxicity are primarily related to the central nervous system and cardiovascular system and can include dizziness, tinnitus, confusion, tremors, seizures, hypotension, bradycardia, and cardiac arrest.
