Taxanes are a class of diterpenes originally isolated from the bark of the Pacific yew tree, Taxus brevifolia. The most well-known taxanes are paclitaxel and its semi-synthetic derivative, docetaxel. These compounds disrupt the normal function of microtubules, essential components of the cell cytoskeleton, thereby inhibiting cell division and promoting cancer cell death.
