What are the Challenges in Targeting Tubulin Proteins?
While targeting tubulin proteins can be an effective therapeutic strategy, it poses several challenges. The ubiquitous presence of tubulin in normal cells means that drugs targeting these proteins can also affect healthy cells, leading to side effects such as neuropathy and myelosuppression. Additionally, cancer cells can develop resistance to tubulin-targeting drugs through mutations in tubulin genes or changes in the expression of tubulin isotypes.
