What Are the Challenges in Toxicology Research Related to Neurodegenerative Disorders?
One of the main challenges in toxicology research is the complex and multifactorial nature of neurodegenerative disorders. Distinguishing the specific contributions of environmental toxins from genetic and lifestyle factors can be difficult. Moreover, the long latency period between exposure and disease manifestation complicates the identification of causative agents. Animal models and in vitro studies often lack translational relevance to human disease, posing another challenge. Despite these obstacles, advancements in pharmacogenomics and biomarker research are promising avenues for overcoming these hurdles.
