ADHs metabolize a range of alcohols including ethanol, methanol, and isopropanol. The metabolism of ethanol is the most well-studied due to its widespread consumption in alcoholic beverages. Methanol and isopropanol, although less commonly ingested, can lead to severe toxicity and are metabolized by ADHs into formaldehyde and acetone, respectively. These metabolites are highly toxic and require immediate medical intervention.
